Tesla chargers destroyed in suspected arson fire in BC

Police in Nanaimo are seeking witnesses and footage of a suspected arson fire and vandalism of several Tesla charging stations this past weekend.

Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP, told NowMedia that the local fire department responded to the fires, which started sometime between 2:45 am and 3 am on Saturday morning.

The chargers were located at the far west side of the parking lot at Woodgrove Centre.

Two chargers were destroyed by fire, while three to four others were damaged after being hit with a blunt item. No vehicles were plugged into the stations at the time. The chargers are currently being serviced.

O’Brien said there was no reason why the chargers would have caught fire on their own, so the damage is suspected to be intentional.

No witnesses have come forward and no CCTV footage covering the area has been found yet.

Police are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage, or saw or heard something in the area during the time of the fires is asked to call the RCMP.
