Penticton home to the 'BC Economic Summit' for the next three years

It's considered a big convention and business coup for the Okanagan.

The BC Economic Summit -- and all the attention, money and ideas it generates -- will be held annually in Penticton for the next three years.

It's the result of a partnership between the BC Economic Development Association and the City of Penticton.

The first summit in the series will be May 6-9, 2024 at Penticton Lakeside Resort.

However, Penticton also hosted this year's summit, April 16-18 -- a successful conference that helped the city secure the next three years.

BC Economic Summit is billed not just as a conference, but an annual reunion of like-minded people passionate about shaping the economic future of the province.

"We're bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders, including economic developers, Indigenous leaders, local government leaders, administration, Community Futures, chambers of commerce and boards of trade, the private sector and other experts," said Brian Coombes, chairman of the BC Economic Development Association and the CEO of Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation.

"Together, we will engage in meaningful discussions, share insights and explore opportunities to further enhance the economic prosperity of British Columbia."

The annual summit attracts over 300 delegates who don't just attend the fours of meetings, workshops and networking sessions, but also spend money on hotel rooms, meals and activities ranging from winery and brewery visits to cycling and water sports.

"Penticton is honoured to welcome back the BC Economic Summit, not only in 2024, but for the next three years," said Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield.

"Hopefully, we can even make this a longer relationship."

Bloomfield also pointed out that the summit and the city's goals align perfectly.

"(Both have) a commitment to fostering economic growth and collaboration in our community," he said.

"We look forward to showcasing our city's charm and innovation to all attendees, along with the incredible work being done by the Penticton Indian Band, the Penticton Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures, Visit Penticton and the (Downtown Penticton) BIA (Business Improvement Association).
